The progressiveness of Smethport's grocery establishments is reflected in the grocery store of John A. Lindholm & Son, on Main Street, the attractiveness of which is emphasized by its immaculate cleanliness; its specialized stock of fancy groceries and fresh meats; and the promptness and dispatch with which they render service to their patrons.

John & Lindholm, senior member of the firm, is one of Smethport's dependable citizens. He came here more than forty years ago, and as a young lad started at the bottom, and by perseverance, economy and good business judgment, developed into one of the community's substantial business citizens.

It was he who first introduced the commercial ice business into Smethport. In 1917 he launched into the grocery business, which showed a steady, successful growth, from the beginning.

In 1933 he sustained a heavy financial loss when his mercantile establishment together with his residence apartments above was completely destroyed by fired. This misfortune, however, did not deter Mr. Lindholm. With his son, Edw. J. Lindholm, junior member of the firm, he opened a grocery store in another block of Main Street, and today they enjoy the patronage of a wide circle of satisfied patrons.

Adjoining the grocery store, in a separate business room, the firm has a neat and attractive little store featuring Florsheim footwear for ladies and gentlemen, and a complete line of school shoes, as well as a snappy line of men's furnishings. The firm is noted for its clean cut, fair dealing business methods.

Edw. J. Lindholm is one of Smethport's progressive young business men, with a record of which anyone might well feel proud. In the World War he did not wait to be conscripted, but answered the call of the colors by enlistment in the U. S. Navy, in which he served for six months, with honor both to himself and his country. He is a member of the local American Legion Post, and has served a term as both Post Commander and Adjutant of the organization.
