PLANS CALL FOR JUNE DEDICATION
_____________________
At a joint meeting
of the Bucktail Post of the American Legion and the Auxiliary Monday evening,
it was announced that Mr. Orlo J. Hamlin and Mrs. Eugenia H. Merrell had
made a most generous gift of the sum of Seven Thousand Dollars for acquiring
a lot and the construction of a new Legion Home. the site of the
new Legion Home is the J. C. Hamlin lot on the south side of Main Street,
West of the Fry company building. the plans have been prepared by
construction Contractor J. Alfred Johnson, and the Home and the lot will
cost not less than Eighty-five Hundred Dollars, and the Legion Lyceum and
lot is to be sold to J. Alfred Johnson for the sum of Fifteen Hundred Dollars,
and it is expected that he will remove this building.
The plans call for the completion
of the building in all its parts, and the Legion and Auxiliary will have
to furnish only the furniture and kitchen range and utensils.
It is also expected that the
building will be ready for occupancy in june, and at suitable dedication
ceremonies and appreciation of the gracious gift to be held in that month,
that the State Commander and the State President of the Auxiliary will
be present.
The movement for a new Home
ws commenced last fall at the urge of Marion G. Potter, the President of
the Auxiliary. A committee was appointed by Commander Paul Woodcock
of the Post on the 20th of November, consisting of O. Albert Johnson, Robert
Hull, and E.G. Potter. The credit for the success of the matter is
due to the untiring efforts and unstinted time of O. Albert Johnson.
A proper resolution was adopted
accepting the gift of Mr. Hamlin and Mrs. Merrell, and authorizing the
committee which will consist of the three named, and Commander Paul Woodcock
and Adjutant Harold Lee, to complete the transaction.
Enough cannot be said to express
the appreciation of the ex-service men and women and the auxiliary and
the public generally for the many fine things which Mr. Hamlin and Mrs.
Merrell have done for this community.
