Pennsylvania Station in Late Stages of Demolition
The Bradford Era
Friday, February 24, 1956

The railroad depot resembles a tent after demolition crew collapsed it in an effort to expedite razing. The 75 year-old structure was erected by the Bradford Railroad Co. which started in 1881 with 14 miles of narrow gauge track. The use of narrow gauge was discontinued in 1896, and only about one-quarter of a mile of narrow gauge track remains. The Bradford Railroad leased its facilities to the Buffalo, New York & Philadelphia Railroad Co., which was owned by the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad Co. In 1921, the W.N.Y. &P. took ownership of the Bradford Railroad, including the passenger station. The W.N.Y.&P. later became the Pennsylvania Railroad. The passenger station has been unused by the railroad for about 10 years. Last week the building was collapsed. A small bonfire is visible at the base of the roof.
