"The Patch" was a group of 40 company houses built by the Buffalo Coal Company for their miners. The men would walk
north across the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad tracks and catch the train which ran to the Gumboot Mines, a
couple miles west of town.
The Patch was located across from the Clermont School, between Red Mill Brook and the Milesburg-Smethport Turnpike.
The Norwich Road passed just to the east of the houses.
