History was made at McCoy Stadium in Smethport on Monday Aug. 10,1953, when a bulldozer donated by the Heinemann Estate and operated by Andy Rifle, broke the earth for the War Memorial Swimming Pool.  Location of the $37,000 living memorial to the heroic dead of all wars, who resided in Smethport and vicinity, can be judged by the Field House in the background.  The site is near West Willow St. (Mill St.).  The stadium area is a busy place these days.  Another bulldozer is working just south of the wall on the site of a proposed motel to be built by Preston Bernard.  And next to that project is a new wayside refreshment stand erected by Mr. Mrs. Ed Harmon.
