Benton Place:  The above picture shows the former home of Mr. A.M. Benton, a house of colonial type built in 1866.  Mr. Benton was one of the pioneer lumbermen of Port allegany and had mills at Bertville and Turtle Point.  It was his desire that after his death his farm should be laid out in town lots and made part of Port allegany known as Benton's Addition.  Mr. and Mrs benton were two of Port Allegany's most respected citizens and lived at Benton Place until their death.  They had three children, a son Volney H, deceased, and two daughters, Mrs. Keane, who lives in england and Mrs. Chapman of Columbus, Ohio, who now used Benton Place as a summer house.  During the 1920's Benton Place was converted to Maple Shade Inn.
