1903:  Shepherd's Livery

George L. Sheperd Livery is located opposite the Sartwell House on Mill Street behind the Keystone Garage.  He established the business in 1903 and has a large and growing business, numbering among his patrons many of the best people in the community.  the premises occupied is a fine frame building 50 x150 feet in area and provided with well lighted, ventilated and perfectly drained stalls and affords superior accomodations for horses.  Skilled and careful men are employed, and boarding horses receive the best possible care and attention.  Twelve fine horses, speedy, kind and stylish-looking are kept for livery purposes, and the buggies, carriages and light rigs are unsurpassed.  A specialty is made of transients and the rates are most reasonable.  Mr. Shepherd is a native of Smethport, McKean County, and received his education in common schools.  He has been in the livry business for ten years.  He has served as constable of this borough for five years and at present serving in that capacity.  The success which he has achieved is due to his close attention to the requirements of his patrons and his fair and honorable business practices.  Port Allegany, Pennsylvania 1913 compiled by H.
