Old Route 59
Smethport to Port Allegany

Shortcut old Route 59 (now US Route 6) was constructed during the 1920s so it was not necessary
to go up to Larrabee* Corners near Eldred to get to Port Allegany from Smethport.
*historically Larabee was spelled "Larrabee" .

Road over Bush Hill
The road over Bush Hill towards Port Allegany is simply fearful. In some places the snow drifts are almost impassable, and in other places the water has run down the sleigh track on one side and cut clear through to the ground, making it almost im possible to pass over with a sleigh. Other places are entirely bare

Weber Buggy Wreck

Mr. Weber and his esteemed better half started on Tuesday to drive from Port Allegany to the hub.  Arriving at the top of Bush hill they were overturned in a snow drift, the horse running away, and was finally caught at East Smethport.  Some one started back with the rig and met Mr. Weber and wife pleasantly stolling toward Smethport.  When they met the horse and cutter they stepped aboard and returned home, and we lost a pleasant visit from the happy couple.
