The Hogan (a shelter for the park) was a development of the historical Navaho pole and clay structure. The appropriate form was executed with rough lumber and native stone. The rigors of climate, vandalism, and poor maintenance (reflecting a disinterested citizenry) led to dismantling of the super-structure. The Port Allegany Community Park (around 1930) was initially conceived, planned, financed, and built by members of the Rotary Club with widespread assistance from citizens of the area. Its physical development from a rustic picnic ground to the present educational and recreational complex included, among many other features, the structures designed by Raymond Viner Hall.
