TURTLEPOINT, Pa.- Ever wonder how
Turtlepoint got its name? George Carlson knows:
"The original Turtlepoint was down the road here about a mile
and had a road to Coryville. there was a bend in the river right near
where it crrossed, and one of the earliest sawmills was there.
"They cut the pines for the timber at the bend where they dug
the foundation for the bridge and they found a lot of turtles there,
so they called it Turtlepoint."
Mr. Carlson
further noted that Annin Township, where the community is located,
was founded in 1821, "and Turtlepoint was settled at practically
the same time." -excerpt from the Olean Times Herald Tuesday,
