Happening in McKean County in Days of Old, taken
from the Files.
A serious accident that fortunately did not terminate fatally befell
the two young sons of John Tracy, and the 7-year-old boy of D. F. Keefe,
Saturday afternoon, Decmber 1, 1888, about 5 o'clock, at the intersection
on Main and Union streets. As usual the boys were coasting on the latter
street, and with their bobs hitched together were in the set of descending
the hill, as the team of Albert Hackett was coming along up Main street.
The boys not seeing the danger ahead, made no effort to stop the bobs,
and in consequence ran under the horses feet. They were ail trampled
on and injured severely, young Keefe sustaining a bad cut on the head,
and a number of bruises, while the skull of Michael, the youngest of
the Tracy boys, was fractured, his brother having several fingers injured,
one of which was broken. Doctors Freeman and McCoy attended the unfortunates
who are doing very well at present. Michael, who has a wide fame for
pluck, is reported to have smiled several times during the surgical
operation, in which a piece of skull an inch square was removed from
his head. The boys will probably never forget their eventful ride.
