DR. OSTRANDER WILL BE MISSED

McKean County Democrat February 17, 1938

The death of Dr. W. A. Ostrander will be sincerely mourned by a legion of friends.

The late physician was one of Smethport’s best known civic leaders for a long period of years and was always in the forefront of any move for town advancement.

This stalwart interest was recognized generally and the popular physician was repeatedly honored by his fellow townsmen election after election- serving as burgess several times and between times as councilman over a remarkable term of years.

For over thirty years the Doctor served continuously as councilman or burgess- a record that cannot be equaled in town history.

The outstanding service rendered the community will long be remembered.

As president of the borough council he was active up to the very day he was suddenly stricken with his last illness.

As a member of the American Legion, the Smethport Conopus Club, the Fire Department, and different lodges, he had at one time or another werved as head of all of those organizations and each post of honor he discharged capably.

For a long term of years Dr. Ostrander served ably as state medical director for McKean County. He was McKean County physician for several terms and served one term as deputy coroner.

Dr. Ostrander was elected to the Pennsylvania state legislature in 1914 and served one term.
