The Home Town Takes Two Games From Kane-The Saturday Game Easy-Burke's Home Run Makes Wednesday's Effort Successful.

Promptly at 3:15 last Saturday, Umpire Mullin yelled "play ball" and the first game of the season between Kane and Smethport began.  The game was not as interesting as had been anticipated.  Kane's pitcher was knocked out of the box in the third inning.  The change did not seem to improve Kane's luck for Smethport played better than ever.  Kane's bad luck was not due so much to bad playing as to the fact that they were badly crippled by the absence of three of their best players.  Smethport won the game without any great struggle by the following score:

A return game with Kane was played on the Kane grounds Wednesday of this week.  Headed by the Echo Cornet Band rendering highly appreciated music, the two nines and followers formed at 1:30 pm. and after marching through the principal streets, came to the ball grounds where the game soon commenced.  From the start the game gave promise of being intensely interesting and time only proved the prediction.  By a glance at the score one will see that only in three innings was any scoring done.  Kane made their two runs by unfortunate plays by Smethport, while three of Smethport's four runs were earned.  With the bases full, Burke stepped to the plate and knocked a ball over the left field fence, clearing the bases and making a home run amid the tremendous cheering of the Smethport "heelers" and much to the chagrin of thr Kane supporters.  The treatment received by our boys from the Kaneites, was of the most gentlemanly  kind and credit is due the umpire who gave perfect satisfaction.  It is certainly hoped that the gentlemanly feeling will prevail between the two places and that more games may be arranged for in the near future.  The score:
