Thieves Enter Shoe Store Taking Shoes And Hose
McKean County Miner May 31, 1928

Steal shoes and hose-same thieves believed to have attempted to steal two automobiles.
Sunday morning when Martin Carlson entered the Anderson Carlson Shoe Store on Main street, he found it to be in much confusion. During the night preceding thieves had made an entrance through a rear window, by cutting away a screen and opening an unlocked window. They had evidently carefully selected shoes etc., to suit their needs for the nine pairs of men’s shoe’s missing were in sizes from six to nine, several pairs of ladies hose and several pairs of children’s shoes were also among the articles stolen. Sunday Mr. Carlson found many o f the empty shoe boxes that had been thrown away on Willow Street, the thieves having discarded the boxes as soon as possible. County Detective Allison is working on the case and has several very good clues. Not Satisfied with looting the Anderson and Carlson Shoe Store, last Saturday night, attempts were also made to steal two automobiles. Orville Halpenny, who is employed until late in the evening at the Marvel Specialty plant, found on entering his garage that the transmission lock on his Buick sedan, had been broken, an attempt having been made to start the car. Forrest Abbey of Bank street surprised two men in his garage the same night, which made their escape in the darkness.
Oscar Anderson Takes Over His Father's Store
McKean County Democrat July 11, 1946

One of the most modern shoe stores in the area is owned and operated at 217 West Main Street in Smethport by Oscar Anderson a native of this section. Mr. Anderson purchased the business and building, owned by his father, Albert Anderson and Martin Carlson on October 5, 1945. The Anderson and Carlson Shoe Store was one of the pioneer business establishments in the borough. When Mr. Oscar Anderson acquired ownership, he undertook an extensive remodeling program, which is still underway. The interior of the storeroom presents to the shoe buyer an attractive appearance, which is comparable to the better salesrooms in the larger cities. One of the first steps undertaken by Mr. Anderson after purchasing the business was to buy a complete new stock of merchandise, which today insures the customer the latest in style and the best quality leather and rubber footwear.
