Cooper Chevrolet Co.dealership originally erected and owned
this building in 1929. It has switched hands several times since then.
Above is a picture of the present day inhabitor of the building: Keppel Stone
Works.
During 2006 Keppel Stone Works was opened for
business in Smethport by Jeff Keppel and Sandra Keppel. Jeff, a master
stone carver, creates stone monuments, markers, and permanent works of
art. Keppel Stone provides a rennaissance to a lost art originally based
in Smethport on the corner of Franklin and Water Streets, that provided
the remarkable stone monuments in Rose
Hill Cemetery, Colegrove Cemetery and throughout the region. Today,
Keppel Stone Works provides old world quality that reaches throughout
western Pennsylvania and the western tier of of New York State.
Jeff works closely with each client from conception to finished product,
developing a one on one relationship to achieve personalized works of
exceptional design, “where art imitates life.” |

Garage And Show Room McKean Democrat October 17, 1929 The beautiful new brick building at Main and Nelson Streets, which will house the salesrooms and garage of the Cooper Chevrolet Company, is now nearly ready for occupancy. The new structure is absolutely fireproof and contains a large main floor and a roomy basement. The Main Street frontage of the structure is finished off for salesroom and office purposes and large plate glass show windows will permit the attractive display of Chevrolet models. The building will also provide a large floor space for car storage and roomy facilities for the repair and machine shop department. The Cooper Co. is moving from its present garage in East Smethport into its new home this week. |
